Music or video stutters when streaming using iHomeServer web interface
If music or video stutters when you are streaming it via the iHomeServer Web interface, there may be one of three problems:
1. Insufficient bandwidth
You may not have sufficient bandwidth between your iHomeServer computer and the client device. Check your device's wifi connection and if possible try connecting via an Ethernet connection instead of wifi. If the problems persist, then consider selecting a video transcoding option that requires a lower bandwidth. Lower bandwidth tends to mean less processor power is required to decode the resultant video stream.
For further information please see the topic on video transcoding.
2. Slow processor on the device playing the video
The device you are using to play the music/video is not capable of decoding the media quickly enough. If this is the case, consider selecting a video transcoding option that requires a lower bandwidth. Lower bandwidth tends to mean less processor power is required to decode the resultant video stream.
For further information please see the topic on video transcoding.
3. Slow processor on the iHomeServer computer
If you are transcoding video, the computer running iHomeServer may not have sufficient processor power to transcode the video in realtime. Check whether any other processes are taking up a lot of CPU on your server; if they are then close those processes to free up CPU. Alternatively, consider selecting a video transcoding option that requires a lower bandwidth. Lower bandwidth tends to mean less processor power is required to decode the resultant video stream.
