Installing the standalone iHomeServer Management Console

 
You can install the iHomeServer Management Console without installing the full iHomeServer server.  This is useful if you want to install the iHomeServer Management Console on a desktop or laptop computer whilst you run the main iHomeServer server on a dedicated PC or server in another room.  iHomeServer's client/server architecture allows you to use a standalone iHomeServer Management Console to manage a remote iHomeServer server.  Please see the topic on iHomeServer Remote Management for furrther information.
 
To install just the iHomeServer Management Console on a normal Windows desktop computer, such as Windows 8.1/8/7/XP/Vista or Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 follow the instructions below.  .
 
  1. Download iHomeServer from our web site - www.bizmodeller.com - to your computer.  When you are on the download site, please ensure you correctly select your Operating System from the download table as the installation media is different per OS.  The installation media is also different depending on whether you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit variant of the Operating System.  Note that the screen-shots below are from the 64-bit version, however, the 64-bit installation process is identical.
     
  2. Open the downloaded MSI and click 'Run'


     
  3. Click 'Next' to progress to the End User License Agreement:


     
  4. Review and accept the terms in the License Agreement, then click 'Next':


     
  5. Click the drop-down to the left of the 'iHomeServer Server' feature and select 'Entire feature will be unavailable':


     
  6. Click 'Next' to confirm to the next screen:


     
  7. Click 'Install' to begin the installation.  Installation will create the iHomeServer Windows Service.  When installation is complete, the following screen will be displayed:


     
  8. Click 'Finish' to close the installation.
     
  9. Go to your Start menu and search for 'iHomeServer' and you will see a new shortcut for the iHomeServer Console:




When you start the iHomeServer Console, click the link to open a remote server and then choose the iHomeServer instance you want to manage.  If your iHomeServer server is not listed in the list of discovered servers then double check that the Setting to allow remote iHomeServer Management Console connections has been checked in iHomeServer Settings / Network tab.
